Is NorthSMS free? Can I get a free number?

NorthSMS is not a free service — it works on a pay-as-you-go basis. You top up your wallet in US dollars on the Add Balance page, and every number you buy is paid from that balance. Each number has its own price depending on the country, the service, and current availability, so you only ever pay for what you actually use.

There is no subscription and no membership fee. SMS activation purchases are one-time. Rental numbers are charged when you buy them and have auto-renew turned on by default — you can switch auto-renew off for any rental at any time, in which case the number simply ends when its period is over.

For SMS activation numbers there is an important guarantee: if no verification code arrives, the order is cancelled or expires and the held amount is automatically released back to your wallet. You are never charged for a number that received no code.

While there are no free numbers, you can lower your costs: coupon and discount codes can be applied to purchases, and spending-based discount tiers give you an automatic discount that grows as you spend more.
